Głowienka received the medal in recognition of his vital role in the military partnership between the Illinois National Guard and the Polish Land Forces, which began in 1993.

Within its framework, Illinois National Guard soldiers and airmen work and train with Polish soldiers. The National Guard’s Bilateral Embedded Staff (BEST) Team is currently serving in Afghanistan with Poland’s Task Force White Eagle, a Polish Land Forces unit.

The ceremony was held at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minnesota, during a visit by a delegation of the Polish Land Forces, whose programme also included a meeting at NATO’s Allied Transformation Command in Norfolk, Virginia.

Major General William Enyart, the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, who retired from service earlier this year, received Poland’s Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit from President Bronisław Komorowski during his visit to the United States in May. He is also the recipient of the Polish Army Medal (2011). (mk/jb)
