Bogdan Zdrojewski, who told Polish Radio the presentation in New York is an important event due to the sizeable Jewish community, many of who will be coming to Warsaw to visit the unique museum in the country from which their family ancestors had come.

A co-host at the event was Larry Silverstein, a leading member of New York’s Jewish community.

His company is also among the major construction firms commissioned with the reconstruction of the city’s Ground Zero.

“When the Jewish community in New York becomes aware of this museum it will take on a much greater importance than it has today,” Larry Silverstein told Polish Radio.

“The Jewish community in New York supports many museums. But ultimately this one, I think, will be so unique it can only be helpful to the population at large and not just the Jewish community,” he added (for more, click on audio file).

Funding for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews has come from the Polish government and Warsaw City Hall.

Private sponsors have contributed to financing a permanent exhibit at the museum at a cost estimated at $ 80 million.

One fourth of that sum has been covered by Jan Kulczyk, for many years ranked by Forbes as one of the wealthiest Poles.

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews is to be officially opened by the end of next year. It is expected to gather large numbers of representatives of the Jewish community from the United States. (ss/pg)
