The charity says that freezing cold in winter months kills more people than a civil war currently ravaging parts of Afghanistan.

Polish soldiers sent the charity “an alarming list” of essentials needed by Afghani families, says the foundation's Justyna Janiec-Palczewska.

In the next few days a transport will be sent to Afghanistan including “hats, scarves, coats, school supplies” and “toys and a range of small rugs kids will be able to sit on at school," she said.

Poland currently has over 2,000 troops in the eastern Ghazni province, where the soldiers are scheduled to withdraw from the country in 2014. (pg)
