The chief purpose of President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj's visit is to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, and his delegation includes 60 prominent Mongolian businessmen.

Besides meeting with President Komorowski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the Mongolian head of state is due to take part in an economic forum.

Agreements between the two countries are set to be signed in the fields of economic and academic cooperation, as well as concerning the international fight against organised crime.

Mongolia's economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, largely due to its export of minerals.

Representatives of the mining and construction industries are among those taking part in the economic forum.

Tonight, President Komorowski will hold an official dinner in his Mongolian counterpart's honour.

Tomorrow, President Elbegdorj will visit Gdansk, northern Poland, in tribute to support shown by Poland's former Solidarity trade union activists for democratic change in Mongolia during the early 1990s.

Mongolia's peaceful democratic revolution of 1990, of which President Elbegdorj was a key player, paved the way for the introduction of a multi-party system in the country, following decades of communist rule. (nh)
