Two Poles carrying out seasonal work in Germany were beaten by locals for a theft they did not commit, the Markische Oderzeitung paper suggests.

The Poles have been released without charge after German police found no evidence that they had committed a crime. Meanwhile, the German assailants may themselves face charges.
The incident occurred in the town of Kremmen, 37 kilometres north of Berlin.
According to the Markische Oderzeitung, a local woman had her house burgled in the early hours of Monday morning.
Suspicions fell on three Polish men working in the vicinity, and later that day, a group of locals chased after the trio.
One managed two escape, the others were beaten and tied up.
However, when the Poles were presented to the woman who had been burgled, she insisted that they were not the ones responsible for the break-in.
The two Poles both had to be treated in hospital for facial injuries.
Meanwhile, the Germans who carried out the citizen's arrest are upholding their right to have done so under Section 127 of Germany's criminal code. (nh)
