"Large exercises, such as Steadfast Jazz, are crucial for NATO," Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in Drawsko Pomorskie, as troops went through their paces designed to train and test troops and commanders from the NATO Response Force (NRF).

Steadfast Jazz is taking place in Poland and Lavia between 2 and 9 November and were also observed, Thursday, by Polish, Lithuanian, and Latvian presidents Bronisław Komorowski, Algirdas Butkevicius and Andris Berzins.

"During these exercises our commanders, soldiers and training efforts are concentrated in one place, to emphasize the solidarity of the Alliance, to improve our skills and show that NATO is ready, willing and able to respond to all challenges in the future," Rasmussen said.

"The NATO Response Force is essential in maintaining and enhancing the ability of forces from across the Alliance to work together,” said General Philip Breedlove, Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

"This will be increasingly important as the ISAF mission in Afghanistan winds-down and NATO prepares to meet future challenges,” he added. (pg)
