Poland's foreign ministry has welcomed Sunday's preliminary agreement in Geneva between Iran and six world powers on the limiting of Iran's nuclear programme.

“We are convinced that the preliminary agreement opens the way for a gradual normalization of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the international community,” a statement released by the ministry affirmed.

“We see this development as the first vital step towards addressing in a comprehensive manner the issue of Iran’s atomic programme, which also demonstrates the parties’ willingness to come up with compromise solutions through constructive dialogue,” the ministry noted.

The agreement followed four days of negotiations in the Swiss city, with Iran's foreign minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif in talks with delegates from the P5+1 group of nations - the US, the UK, Russia, China, France and Germany.

“We consider especially important Iran’s obligations to limit its uranium enrichment scheme, halt the construction of the heavy water reactor in Arak and allow inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to monitor Iran’s nuclear facilities, which have previously been out of bounds for the IAEA,” Poland's foreign ministry outlined.

Owing to Iran's concessions, there will no nuclear-related sanctions over a six-month period, if Iran upholds its pledges.

Similarly, Iran will obtain sanctions relief to the value of about 7 billion US dollars, concerning sectors such as gold and other precious metals. (nh)
