Posting a link on his Twitter profile concerning Putin's recent remarks about “[gay] propaganda among children,” Laurie commented that he would “boycott” Russian goods if he could think of a unique Russian export.

The actor and musician later added: “Yes, alright, Russian vodka is OK if you need to clean the oven. For drinking, it must henceforth be Polish.

“I urge good, kind Russians to stand up to the slab-faced goons who deal in this kind of [anti-gay] poison," he said.

Russia's law against “homosexual propaganda” was introduced in June 2013, banning the promotion of homosexuality among minors, following measures outlawing gay marches.

Putin stressed last week that gays will not be arrested at the forthcoming Sochi Winter Olympics, but that homosexuals in Russia should “leave children alone.”

Laurie's long-time comedy partner, gay British actor Stephen Fry, has called for a boycott of the Sochi Winter Olympics this February in protest against the recent anti-gay law. (nh/pg)
