This is the American guided missile destroyer’s third visit to Poland, with the ship currently part of the US Navy’s Carrier Strike Group Ten.

USS Oscar Austin arrived in Gdynia on Tuesday following visits to Tallinn in Estonia and Karlskrona in Sweden, where it took part in the 42nd annual BALTOPS Exercise, informed Commander Thomas H. Kierstead, US Naval Attache in Poland.

The ship is on a tour of ports in countries of American allies, Commander Kirstead told Polish Radio, adding that the two day visit in Gdynia is proof of excellent US-Polish cooperation.

The ship’s commander, Captain Brian Diebold has Polish roots, with his great grandfather being Franciszek, or Frank, Zacharzewski, who settled in the United States in 1909. (ss/pg)
