“Poland and Germany are working together so that Europe will make good decisions to change the course of events in Ukraine,” Poland’s foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Wednesday following a bilateral meeting with his German opposite number, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Steinmeier was in Warsaw for an annual ambassadors’ conference hosted by Poland’s head of diplomacy. During a joint presser held after the talks, Sikorski underlined that the two ministers addressed the situation in Ukraine.

Sikorski added that Poland and Germany are striving for the EU to be “effective in its dialogie with Russia,” underlining that a ceasefire must lead to “recovery by Ukraine’s authorities over its territory with respect to the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

The comments come as the European Commission is expected to propose new sanctions on Russia in the defence, financial and technology sectors later on Thursday.

The EU is also expected to widen the list of people banned from entry to the EU. So far, the list contains 72 Russian individuals and two companies. (jb)
