The accident occurred at about 2am on Wednesday as the vehicles headed towards the Polish border.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Polish lorry crashed into the back of the minibus, which then rammed into a second lorry.

Two of the three people in the minibus died.

It is also understood that the Polish lorry was transporting chemicals, and that the substance leaked across the motorway.

However, it is unclear at present what the material was, with some witnesses reporting a carcinogenic substance, and others identifying it as paint.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Wednesday's crash is the latest in a series of accidents involving Polish vehicles on German motorways. In mid-July a Polish bus collided with a minibus near Dresden, killing 11 people and injuring over 60. (nh)
