Scotland recruiting Polish policemen

Police in Scotland are aiming to bring over officers from Warsaw as a result of the vast influx of immigrants since Poland joined the EU ten years ago.

“We have a number of officers recruited who, for example, have Polish ancestry or were born and raised in Scotland,” Deputy Chief Constable Iain Livingstone told STV.
“But we are taking some pro-active work to link in with colleagues in Warsaw - focusing on Poland because of the number of economic migrants - to get some Polish officers over to work with us in Scotland."
The Warsaw recruits will help with everything from tracking down missing persons within Scotland's Polish community to day to day crime issues.
The current drive follows on from a collaborative project involving London's Metropolitan Police. In 2013, London's police force brought over both Polish and Romanian officers in a bid to tackle crime involving immigrants of the aforementioned nationalities.
A survey by Oxford University’s Migration Observatory found that from 2001 to 2011, Scotland's Polish-born community grew from 2505 to 55,231, making Poles the country's biggest minority. (nh)
