“Living in this part of Europe, we should remember that the world around us is unsafe. Poland's priority is first and foremost to strengthen our own defences. We are [key members of] NATO, but the world poses new challenges.

"We must be wary of developing war sentiments and statements that Poland needs to go to war. At the same time we cannot pretend that nothing is happening in Ukraine,” President Bronisław Komorowski told an interview on broadcaster TVP Info.

The head of state added that countries in Europe are not seeing eye to eye when it comes to assessing the danger.

“We are trying to convince Western Europe about our outlook on Russia's actions. Because the changes which happened to our neighbor are permanent. It seems that not all of the West sees this issue as painfully as Poland and Ukraine," Komorowski said.

“At the same time, issues such as the truce reached between Russia and Ukraine is a matter which must be evaluated by Kiev," Komorowski added.

The president's comments came at a time when all of Europe is on high alert to the danger of incoming aggression. The ISIS terrorist group is allegedly on the bank of Tripoli and has announced its intention of invading southern Europe via the Mediterranean sea.

Media reports on Thursday said that the group has made threats to send as many as half-a-million immigrants as a “psychological weapon” to weaken countries such as Italy, France, and the tiny republic of Malta. (rg)
