The Polish head of state argued for a novel approach in his address at the Brussels Forum organized by the German Marshall Fund.

In his view, this long-term strategy should involve the joint efforts of the European Union and NATO.

The latter, the Polish President stressed, should remain an effective military alliance and be able to spend more on defence.

Recalling that after World War Two the Marshall Plan helped Europe in its post-war reconstruction effort, Komorowski said that today a similar plan should be offered to assist Ukraine in its reforms.

The Brussels Forum is a prestigious gathering of politicians and experts to discuss key problems of the trans-Atlantic alliance. Among this year’s participants are General Breedlove, Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO Allied Command Operation, former US Presidential security adviser Zbigniew Brzeziński and President Toomas Hendrik Ilves of Estonia.
