Four Polish lorry-drivers arrested in UK over migrant-smuggling

Four Polish lorry-drivers have been arrested in the UK 68 illegal immigrants were discovered in containers at the English port of Harwich on Thursday night.

According to initial reports, the stowaways included 35 Afghanis, 22 Chinese, 10 Vietnamese and one Russian, taking in 53 adults and 15 children.

Seven of those discovered were taken to hospital as a precaution, before being released,” a Home Office spokesperson has stated.

All 68 individuals are now in the care of Border Force.”

The four Poles have been taken to separate police stations, where they are being questioned by the Home Office's criminal investigations team.

It is understood that two pregnant women were among the stowaways, although police have said that none of the migrants is in a life-threatening condition. (nh)
