Polish tourists have been advised not to spend their holidays in the North African country because of the current dangerous situation in the region.

In connection with the recent events in Tunisia, the escalation of fighting in the Sinai peninsula, as well as information flowing from Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Poles to refrain from traveling to this country – including holiday resorts on the Red Sea.

At the same time, the Ministry recommends that Polish tourists already staying in Egypt "monitor the situation, and strictly adhere to the recommendations of the [local] security forces and representatives of travel agencies”.

The Foreign Ministry recently released a service, Odysseus, whereby those who plan to travel abroad may register their departure. The Ministry ensures that data stored in the system would help – in the event of a dangerous situation – to locate tourists and allow Polish consular services to support them. (rg)
