Poles currently holidaying in Greece, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia, Portugal, Morocco, Bulgaria, Turkey and Italy have all been affected.

The Province Chairman's Office of the Mazovia Region is currently trying to fly back stranded tourists.

Yesterday evening it emerged that in many places there are serious problems with paying for accommodation, with the result that people have been forced out of hotels,” commented Marta Milewska, spokesperson for the office, in an interview with Polish Radio.

She said that the top priority is to fly back 300 tourists from Turkey, where hotel-owners have declined to work out a compromise with holiday-makers.

The Province Chairman's Office has complained that Alfa Star is “not cooperating” and that lists of travellers affected by the company's bankruptcy had to be obtained via the foreign ministry.

The office is trying to hammer out solutions for those not covered by Alfa Star's insurance policy. (nh/rk)
