“The decision by Poland to participate in the financial assistance for the refugees which was announced by the EU will be taken at the next government meeting,” Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz announced after the EU summit in Brussels.

In the night between Wednesday and Thursday, EU leaders declared that they will mobilise at least an additional EUR 1 billion in aid to refugees in camps outside the EU, channelled through the office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme.

Several countries have already decided how much they will allocate for this purpose.

“I cannot declare a specific amount today, but at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers, we will adopt such a resolution and decide on a certain amount which we shall declare to the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission,” Kopacz told a press conference.

“In this specific case, we must show solidarity,” the Polish PM said. (rg/rk)
