For Poland to turn its back to the refugee crisis would be a sign of “anti-European sentiment”, Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said on Friday.

“Solidarity does not only work one way. Since the EU decided that we should show solidarity and open ourselves to those who are fleeing from Africa to protect their lives and health, and not economic migrants […] today we are saying very clearly, that turning our back on the fledglings is a manifestation of anti-Europeanism and shows we do not respect what Europe stands for in this case,” PM Kopacz said.

Kopacz noted that Poland wants to discuss refugees in a common voice with the European Union, “because at a time when it needs help, others could suddenly turn their backs and say, 'This is your problem, we had your problem, and you were not there”. (rg/rk)
