26 people are under suspicion of smuggling citizens to the EU - chiefly from Pakistan - following raids on over 51 properties in Poland and Spain.
Wie das Ministerium für Inneres und Verwaltung versichert, wird die vorübergehende Wiederherstellung der Kontrolle an der EU-Binnengrenze für die Bürger nicht belastend sein.
The security operation, which was coordinated by Europol, involved 365 officers of the Polish Border Guard and the Spanish Police.
The foreigners were apparently brought to Europe across the Mediterranean.
According to Dagmara Bielec-Janas, spokesperson for the Polish Guard, forgers on EU territory provided fake documents, including visas, that would help non-EU citizens apply for Polish residence cards.
“Having obtained an original residence card in this way, the foreigners were then permitted to move around Europe freely, mainly heading on to Spain,” she added.
Bielec-Janas claimed that an international group of organised criminals was behind the scam, adding that “it is believed” that the foreigners were ultimately exploited by being made to perform slave labour. (nh/rk)
