Polański’s victim “relieved” by Polish court’s refusal to extradite filmmaker

Roman Polański’s rape victim, Samantha Geimer, has said she is “very pleased” with the Polish court’s ruling against the extradition of the Polish filmmaker to the US.

“I believe they did the right thing,” Geimer told US broadcaster NBC News about Friday’s decision to reject a call by US prosecutors to extradite Polański over his 1977 sex offense conviction.
As the now 52-year-old woman stressed in the interview, the nearly four-decade-long legal battle against Polański has weighed heavily on her and her family.
Geimer has called what she deems a sensationalist-driven pursuit of the case “a travesty. Hollywood justice at its finest.”
"I'm sure he's a nice man and I know he has a family and I think he deserves closure and to be allowed to put this behind him," Geimer stated. "He said he did it, he pled guilty, he went to jail. I don't know what people want from him."
Roman Polański pleaded guilty to having a sexual intercourse with the then 13-year-old minor and was sentenced to 42 days in prison by a Los Angeles court in 1977. (aba/rk)
