Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski told Reuters that Warsaw was ready to support the UK’s plan to limit the rights of European Union migrants if London helps it boost NATO’s presence in central Europe.

In the interview given for the Reuters agency, “the minister clearly stressed that Poland would not oppose the UK lowering benefits for Poles if it applied to all residents,” the Polish Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement on Monday.

“If Britain decided to cut benefits for all residents, we would not protest, because then everybody is treated equally, Waszczykowski was quoted as saying.

“We are ready to discuss cutting benefits, provided that it applies to all residents currently staying in the UK, irrespective of their origin or race,” the minister added.

“The above statements clearly show minister Waszczykowski is strongly against any form of discriminatory action against Poles,” the statement concluded. (ał/rg)
