“No principles have been breached or overstepped related to the functioning of a democratic state” or the rule of law, Szydło said ahead of the debate on Tuesday.
“We want the EU to understand that Poland as a sovereign state has the right to make internal decisions that serve its citizens. Changes in the country are dictated by our commitment to our voters,” Szydło added.
While in Brussels she met with Polish MEPs.
This is an important day for Poland, as well as for me personally. I hope that a debate based on facts will allow us to discuss issues which are [crucial] here at the European Parliament,” Szydło said.
“In my speech, I will present the facts, I will try to dispel any doubts, and I hope that the Parliament will actively take part in this debate.”
Szydło also held talks with Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders.
The European Parliament debate begins at 4:30 pm and is scheduled to last one-and-a-half hours. (rg/pk)
