A 33-year-old Polish man has been given a ten-month jail sentence for stealing property from a Chinese actress at a hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Rafał Ireneusz admitted the crime but claimed he did not know who was staying in the hotel room that he targeted in December 2015.
The defendant stole jewellery worth over half a million euros from TV star Liu Tao, together with a quantity of cash.
Besides the prison sentence, the Copenhagen City Court ruled that after finishing his jail time Ireneusz will be banned from visiting Denmark for six years.
Actress Liu Tao was apparently in Copenhagen to promote a Danish shoe brand.
“Although terrified for 24 hours... I still love this fairy-tale country,” she wrote on Chinese social media shortly after the incident. (nh)
