Chinese president to visit Poland

President of China Xi Jinping will make an official visit to Poland, Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski has announced.

Poland's foreign minister is currently in Beijing for bilateral talks and he has likewise confirmed that Prime Minister Beata Szydło will visit China.

The precise dates of both trips have yet to be confirmed.

Waszczykowski met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Tuesday morning, with the talks focusing on strengthening political and economic ties.

The Polish foreign minister said that Poland is looking for new partners toaccelerate development in Poland, and that China is a natural partner in Asia.

Wang Yi commented that Poland is an important country in the [CEE] region, as well as a strategic partner for China.

Poland remains the largest trading partner of China in the region of Central and Eastern Europe.”

Waszczykowski later spoke with Vice President Li Yuanchao, who reflected that our cooperation in the framework of the strategic partnership is developing very dynamically.”

Talks also broached the subject of the so-called One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative, which seeks to consolidate trading routes between China and Europe.

In August 2015, a landmark freight train service from Chengdu, south western China, to Łódż in central Poland, was upgraded to a two-way service. (nh)
