The paper said that Aleksander Zalizko was buried in Zhytomyr, west of Kiev, on April 27, just a day before he had been due to be demobilized.

He leaves behind two children aged three and six, the paper added.

Zalizko was "one of those who do not retreat before the enemy," the commander of the unit in which he served was quoted as saying by the Wizyt.net service, according to Gazeta Polska Codziennie.

“A diversionary enemy group wanted to break through into our territory, fighting broke out. Sasha was wounded several times. He died with a weapon in his hand,” the unit commander was quoted as saying.
