Over thirty Polish ambassadors, including those in the UK and US, will be replaced over the coming months, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski has said.

“Ambassadors in the US, UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, the Vatican, as well as several countries outside Europe will end their term,” Waszczykowski told the PAP news agency.

“The ambassador in Spain has already returned to the country. In total, we will replace over thirty ambassadors, consuls and a large group of employees of cultural institutes,” Waszczykowski said, adding that: “A significant part of the ambassadors will see their terms naturally ending this year”.

Waszczykowski said that although it is customary for an ambassador's term to last four years, this is only “customary” and not contractual.

Poland's ambassador to the EU has already been changed and the country's representative in NATO will be replaced following the NATO summit in Warsaw in July, the Minister said. (rg)
