"The contribution that Poland is giving to the EU's foreign and security policies is strong," EU's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, told reporters following her meeting with President Andrzej Duda on Thursday.

Mogherini's official visit to Warsaw comes a month ahead of a NATO summit in the capital. Earlier, the foreign policy chief met with the head of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, to draw up a roadmap for collaboration between NATO and the EU. The two alliances are to formally declare a cooperation pact in Warsaw in July.

"We work together with NATO in many different fields, in particular our [military] cooperation in the Mediterranean and the Aegean theaters and especially with attention to cyberthreats," Mogherini said at a joint press conference.

"So there is a lot that the European Union will bring to the Warsaw summit of NATO and this has been at the core of our exchanges with the president," she added.

At the conference, President Duda said the bilateral talks were centered on "topics of key importance, such as security issues, the EU Global Policy, currently being prepared by [High Commissioner Mogherini] and which is soon to be released in its draft version." Other topics touched upon included the Eastern Partnership programme, and the situation in Central and Eastern Europe.

Mogherini, on her second visit to Poland since taking office in 2014, also met with Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski and Prime Minister Beata Szydło. (aba/pk)
