A number of Polish politicians have discussed that strategic decisions of the German authorities are dictated by compromises with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a TV discussion programme on Sunday.

The discussion on broadcaster TVP Info saw Paweł Soloch, the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), saying that Berlin is playing a “great business game”, and that a number of strategic decisions by German authorities are dictated by compromises with the Russian heads of state.

Germany and Russia are currently developing the NordStream 2 gas pipeline which will circumvent Poland and the region.

Former Polish Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak argued that he sees nothing wrong with this business strategy, and each country primarily cares about own interests, and no one should be surprised by this.

“Russians and Germans have built a pipeline on the seabed. It may irritate us. [This may have come as a] response to the gas terminal we have built. Every country does this,” Pawlak said.

Meanwhile Paweł Soloch added that the stance of Germany is also partly evidenced in the recently-ended Anakonda 2016 military exercises.

“Although Berlin sent troops, its participation in the manoeuvres was rather ‘symbolic’,” the BBN head said. (rg)
