The key topics on the agenda of talks include the planned German-Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Britain’s upcoming in/out referendum, and the mass inflow of refugees into Europe.

Nearly all the members of the Polish government are taking part in talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Cabinet.

Poland's European Affairs Minister Konrad Szymański said Polish government representatives are counting on an earnest discussion with their German counterparts.

This year’s 25th anniversary of the Polish-German Treaty of Good Neighbourhood and Friendly Cooperation is “merely a background to the talks, as there’s lots to discuss between Poland and Germany,” the minister said.

Commenting on Moscow’s and Berlin’s plans to construct the Nord Stream 2 gas link between the two countries, Szymański said: “We hope that Berlin understands that creating an open gas market is in the interests of the entire region.”

The planned gas link is to connect Russia and Germany, circumventing Poland and other countries in the region.

The issue was also among the focal points of talks between President Andrzej Duda and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin last week. (aba/pk)
