The talks have been scheduled following a meeting on Saturday in Berlin attended by the six founding member states of the EU focusing on the post-Brexit future of the bloc.

Some in Poland were irritated that Warsaw and other non-founding member states were left out of the Berlin talks.

Rafał Sobczak, the head of the Polish foreign ministry’s press office, has told the PAP news agency the Polish authorities want Monday’s meeting in Warsaw “to be attended by as many ministers as possible.”

He added: “We believe that it is important to talk to everyone... Of course, EU foreign ministers can meet in various formats within the EU framework, but it is important that the discussions take place in an inclusive atmosphere and serve to deepen reflection on the future of the EU.”

Ahead of the Warsaw talks, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski will take part in a meeting of the Visegrad Group with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Prague on Monday.

In the run-up to the UK’s referendum, Waszczykowski warned that if Britons decided to leave the EU, Poland could end up sidelined in a bloc dominated by euro zone countries. He added that a "two-speed Europe" could appear. (pk)
