The Kościuszko, which has a crew of more than 200 and an SH-2G helicopter onboard, set off from the northern Polish port of Gdynia.
At the beginning of July, the ship will join Standing NATO Maritime Group 2, which comprises seven vessels operating in the Mediterranean, mainly frigates from Greece, Germany, Turkey, the US and Britain.
The Kościuszko’s crew is scheduled to return to Poland in September.
The decision to deploy the Polish ship on the mission was announced by President Andrzej Duda last month, following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Warsaw. (pk)
