On Thursday evening, a 31-year-old French national of Tunisian origin ploughed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day at the city’s seafront promenade.

Polish sisters Małgorzata and Magdalena, aged 19 and 20, were among the revellers enjoying a fireworks display that night, Onet.pl reported.

The two women had travelled to France from their home village of Krzyszkowice, southern Poland, for a holiday. They were visiting the French city with their two other sisters and a friend.

The father of the two victims has received psychological counselling, according to reports.

Jarosław Szlachetka a local Law and Justice MP from Małopolska province, where the village is located, pledged in an interview with Onet.pl that he would do his utmost to provide all necessary help to the grieving family.

Eighty-four people were killed in the attack, among them children. Eighteen people are in critical condition. (aba/pk)
