The programme, which will receive the majority of its funding from the EU, aims to increase the competitiveness of border areas, improve residents’ quality of life and encourage cooperation.

Poland’s Development Ministry said that the first call for proposals will begin on 11 October and last until the end of 2016, with EUR 81.47 million worth of funding available.

The first call will include funding for the promotion of local culture and preservation of historical heritage, improvement of transport and communication networks, and improvement of border security.

Two later calls for projects will take place in 2017 and 2018.

Polish Deputy Development Minister Adam Hamryszczak said: “The border regions of Poland, Belarus and Ukraine are counting on more funding, which is why the process of preparing these competitions has been accelerated.” (sl/pk)
