Brain tissue samples found in a Munich laboratory probably belonged to victims of medical experiments conducted at the former Nazi German death camp in Auschwitz, Poland's RMF FM radio has reported.

Tissue samples kept in jars were discovered last year during the renovation of warehouses at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry laboratory in Munich, southern Germany, according to RMF FM.

The broadcaster added that the Munich institute was linked during WWII to Josef Mengele, a German doctor known as the "Angel of Death" who experimented on prisoners at the Auschwitz death camp, run by the Nazi Germans in occupied Poland during the war.

According to RMF FM, a team of scientists is analysing the tissues to determine if they belong to Holocaust victims. (mol/pk)
