Three pipes, a black gunpowder-like substance and probable detonators, possibly intended for constructing pipe bombs, a weapon used in hand-to-hand combat, and drugs were discovered in a car on Thursday night during a routine police inspection.
The other detained individuals were Ivory Coast and Guinea citizens, aged 20, 29 and 37, and were not carrying identification.
Police are investigating the connection between the Polish national and the three African men and where they were travelling. They are also testing the black powder.
Police believe the Polish driver of the vehicle with Silesian numberplates was trying to smuggle his passengers into Germany, according to private radio broadcaster RMF FM.
There was no risk of explosion, police said.
