Poland's Rights Ombudsman Adam Bodnar has told the BBC that Britain’s June vote to leave the EU unleashed fears leading to acts of hatred against Poles.

During a visit to London, Bodnar discussed a spate of recent attacks on Polish citizens living in the UK.

In an interview with the BBC, he said Poles in the UK should not be allowed to suffer as a result of the country's June vote to leave the European Union, which was driven in large part by concerns about immigration from within the bloc.

Britain saw a surge in reported attacks against foreigners after the referendum vote.

In the worst case, Polish factory worker Arkadiusz Jóźwik was killed on 27 August in Harlow, northeast of London.
