Waszczykowski discussed food exports to South Korea, particularly the issue of trade of meat products.

“I was informed by the Korean authorities that they will reconsider the issues of Polish food imports. We assured them that Polish food is healthy,” Waszczykowski said.

Two years ago, South Korea banned imports of Polish pork. The Polish PAP news agency reported that the ban was in relation to two cases of African swine fever found in dead wild boar on the Polish border with Belarus.

Waszczykowski said that Poland has a good relationship with South Korea, “which could also result from similar historical experiences”.

“Prime Minister [Hwang] and myself have agreed that our cooperation is worth investing in,” Waszczykowski said.

On Tuesday, Waszczykowski and First Vice Foreign Minister and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Lim Sung Nam, signed an Action Plan for the 2017-2020 period in Seoul. The document sets out a timetable for future co-operation between Poland and South Korea. (rg)
