“The potential participation of Polish companies in the privatisation in Belarus is a watershed moment in the history of our two countries,” said Polish Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, also the country's Finance and Development Minister, during a visit to Minsk on Monday.

He added that Polish capital would try to purchase Belarusian companies on the list.

“We agreed on a list of medium- and larger-sized companies, but also large ones. For example [we discussed] the fifth largest bank in Belarus, which could potentially be sold,” Morawiecki said.

He said that although the deals would not happen “at once”, the list “opens a very interesting window for cooperation”.

Morawiecki met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday to discuss ways to increase cooperation and trade between the two countries.

The state-owned Belarus Segodnya, the country’s largest newspaper, praised Monday’s visit, saying that relations between Poland and Belarus have now reached “a new level in quality”. (rg)
