According to NATO sources, at least four people have been killed and another 14 wounded in the attack at Bagram Airfield, the largest US military base in Afghanistan.

The Taliban claimed the responsibility for the attack, which is believed to be a suicide bombing.

Poland’s Defence Ministry said the Polish soldier who was among the wounded in the blast has been taken to a local hospital and remains under medical care.

“Doctors said he is in a stable condition and his life is not in danger. The soldier’s family was notified about the incident,” the Defence Ministry said.

The Taliban has taken over large areas of Afghanistan since NATO's main mission in the country ended in 2014.

It controls more territory than ever since US troops overthrew the regime in 2001.

Currently there are some 10,000 US troops in Afghanistan. (ał/vb)
