Polish journalist slams Washington Post columnist Applebaum

Polish commentator Stanisław Janecki has slammed an open letter by US journalist Anne Applebaum to General Michael Flynn published by The Washington Post.

Retired Army Lieutenant General Flynn has been chosen as Trump’s new national security adviser, according to Reuters.
In a comment piece for Poland’s wPolityce.pl website, Janecki wrote that “Applebaum’s letter is really addressed to Donald Trump himself, and it lists the engagement of other NATO member countries (but also that of Australia and Georgia) in US security, arising directly from Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Since other NATO members fought for the US, it is obvious that the US should do the same for them, with Trump in office.”
Janecki added: “On the other hand, I do not understand why [Radosław] Sikorski’s wife thinks that neither Donald Trump nor Michael Flynn do not know that and that they need lectures from the wife of the former Polish foreign minister.”
Janecki said that “people such as president-elect Donald Trump might simply chose to ignore all this [the letter] or even not know who Applebaum is, and even less so Radosław Sikorski [...] Donald Trump’s office is far too important to care about this or even to note it.”
Janecki said that journalists such as The Washington Post’s Anne Applebaum, CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Megyn Kelly and Brit Hume of Fox News, and Katy Tur of NBC, were all involved in an “avalanche of lecturing, insults, impertinence and demands towards Donald Trump” during the US presidential campaign.
Janecki also said that after the US elections “lecturing is predominant, which is the result of Hillary Clinton’s defeat and a feeling of helplessness” among such media figures.
Janecki argued that in Poland the liberal-left media is even less moderate towards its leaders, especially after the victory of Andrzej Duda and the Law and Justice party in Polish presidential and parliamentary elections last year.
Janecki added that people like Applebaum and Sikorski “lecture the Polish government not nearly as gently as they lecture Michael Flynn, but with full brutality, hubris and impudence.”
