Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski has said he does not expect major changes in Austria’s foreign policy after voters in that country on Sunday rejected a right-wing populist in a presidential election.

Norbert Hofer of the anti-immigration Freedom Party lost the presidential race to leftist Alexander Van der Bellen in a re-run of a ballot first held in May.
Waszczykowski told Polish Radio that Hofer “had announced an interesting U-turn in foreign policy. He announced that if he won... Austria would join the Visegrad Group,” which brings together Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
Waszczykowski said Austria was much more active in the Balkans than in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of foreign policy.
He added that the election result should not affect Austrian or Polish foreign policy.
