The main topic of the talks will be the European Council summit which will be held on 15 December.

According to the Polish prime minister's office, the talks on Thursday will cover issues related to the future of the European Union, as well as migration, security and the economy.

The European Council meeting in Brussels will also discuss the relations with countries outside the bloc, including Russia, as well as the situation in the Netherlands in the context of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, according to the Council's website.

The meeting will be followed by an informal meeting of 27 leaders “to set out how the Brexit process will be handled by the EU 27 once the UK has notified”.

Poland and Hungary are part of the Visegrad Group. Its four member countries, which also include the Czech Republic and Slovakia, have increased pressure on the European Union over recent months by announcing they will not accept refugees. (rg)
