Poland will not build closed camps for asylum seekers in the EU, a top aide to the Polish president has said ahead of a Brussels summit at which migration will be a key topic.

In an interview with the PAP news agency, Krzysztof Szczerski, a foreign policy advisor to the country's president, said that Poland “will not build closed, guarded camps for refugees” to stop them from “leaving Poland, because the European Union has forced them to relocate to the country.”
“There will simply not be such places. We will not clean up a 'jungle' such as in Calais, a camp for refugees […] and then force them to reallocate to various locations in Poland,” Szczerski said in an interview published on Wednesday.
He added that Polish President Andrzej Duda has in the past “very clearly indicated” that “forced relocation is contrary to human rights” and that “refugees, even those in the worst financial and life situations cannot be deprived of their rights as a human being”.
Migration issues are among the topics expected to be tackled at a 15 December summit in Brussels. (rg/pk)
