“We welcome the decision of the Polish Foreign Minister to reopen the Polish Embassy in the United Republic of Tanzania. We have been looking forward to the reactivation of the Polish mission since it closed in 2008,” Tanzanian Foreign Minister Augustine Mahiga said at the opening ceremony.

He added that this “is the right decision” and “it will significantly contribute to further intensify our very good bilateral relations”.

The reopening of the embassy was based on Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski’s 22 December 2016 decision to establish a diplomatic mission in Tanzania.

In the coming months, the mission will begin to promote bilateral cooperation and to support the interests of Polish institutions, companies and citizens in the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Malawi and the Union of the Comoros. (rg)
