Britain’s decision to exit the EU is a clear signal that the bloc needs to be reformed, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło said after talks with her Irish counterpart in Warsaw on Thursday.

At a joint press conference with Enda Kenny, Szydło said Poland and Ireland believe the voices of nation states and national parliaments should be better reflected in EU decision-making.

"We are convinced that working together we will be able to meet the challenges posed by the future," said Szydło.

She added that for both Poland and Ireland, the common market is one of the most important achievements of European integration.

Szydło also thanked Ireland for welcoming many thousands of Polish immigrants. "Poles make a concrete contribution to the development of Ireland and are loyal residents," she said.
