They were handed the medals by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan during a ceremony in Brussels on Tuesday.

Czarnecki, who is Vice-President of the European Parliament, has been responsible for its Eastern policy for a second term.

Both Czarnecki and Saryusz-Wolski are members of the Euronest parliamentary assembly, which brings together representatives of EU members states and those of the Eastern Partnership, which includes Armenia.

Saryusz-Wolski is also a member of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Commission.

The Medal of Mkhitar Gosh, named after the Armenian scholar, writer, thinker and priest who lived in 1130-1213, is awarded for outstanding state and social-political activities, as well as for significant services in diplomacy, law and political science. (mk/rg)
