“We discussed many crises, which surround Europe, in Syria, Libya, and Yemen. We met the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, who briefed us on the situation in the Middle East,” Waszczykowski told journalists after the meeting.

The participants of the meeting discussed a joint communique of the High Representative and the European Commission, the EU strategy for Syria of 14 March, which maps the main directions of the EU strategy for ending the war in Syria.

EU foreign ministers who were in attendance reaffirmed the community’s readiness to continue providing humanitarian support for the Syrian population and long-term assistance in rebuilding Syria, provided the country embarks on a process of political transformation.

Waszczykowski said that Poland is prepared to join these efforts. “Continuing humanitarian aid should be the current priority. Poland has been actively engaged in helping Syrian refugees in the region,” he said. (rg)
