"We will talk above all about bilateral cooperation, military cooperation and security in our part of Europe," Waszczykowski told public broadcaster TVP, speaking about his official visit to Washington scheduled for next Wednesday.

He added that among the topics to be discussed would be Poland’s efforts to recover the wreckage of the presidential plane, which crashed in Smolensk, western Russia, seven years ago.

"We are still waiting for the support of our allies in this matter," said Waszczykowski.

"I will definitely lay out the whole issue of the Smolensk catastrophe and our diplomatic battles for the return of the wreckage and I will ask for help," he added.

A Polish plane carrying then-President Lech Kaczyński, his wife, and 94 others crashed on 10 April, 2010, in Smolensk, killing everyone on board, including dozens of senior officials and military commanders.

Despite repeated requests from Warsaw, Russia has refused to return the wreckage of the plane back to Poland.
