Paul Ryan delivered a statement at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw after the meeting with President Andrzej Duda. He said that on the trip to Warsaw, he was representing the United States Congress as the head of the delegation joining the two parties represented in the congress.

“We came to thank the Polish government; We would also like to assure our Polish allies that we are shoulder to shoulder with them and that we share Poland's concerns about Russian aggression,” he said.

“We have several reasons for our visit: the first one is to express our gratitude to Poland for being a leader among NATO member states that supports us in our NATO operations, and we also want to express our support for Poland,” Ryan said.

He also thanked Poland for “paying 2 percent of GDP on defence”, adding that this support from Poland is "crucial”.

Poland is one of a handful of NATO member countries which contribute the required two-percent of Gross Domestic Product to national defence.

“I would like to emphasise once again that we are strong allies,” Ryan said, also thanking Poland for hosting American troops.

“We have a strategic partnership, we have a great friendship between our countries, and we share many aspects of our common history,” he added.

“This was a very good conversation between two allied states,” said Krzysztof Szczerski, the head of the the Polish President's office.

Szczerski said that they discussed, among other issues, security in Central and Eastern Europe, including the role of NATO and Polish-American cooperation in this regard.

“America and Poland have a shared vision of security in our region, and this common vision is confirmed by our allied actions, our joint efforts. This is one of the pillars of Europe's security today. Also the security of Poland,” Szczerski added.
